Energy Systems Technology Scholarship

Due March 15, 2010

The U.S. Department of Labor says that at least 30 percent of the existing workforce will be eligible for retirement in five years. By 2012, the utility sector will have an estimated 10,000 jobs that will remain unfilled. Because of this, Energy Systems Engineering Technicians are well paid professionals in high demand.

Energy technology encompasses a wide variety of careers in power generation, transmission, and distribution. A recent assessment of educational programs within a 500 mile radius of Southeast Idaho indicates that there are no similar programs with the capacity to train energy workers of this type for employment in the projected energy generating facilities that will almost assuredly be built within Idaho and throughout the United States in the next several years.

Currently, there are two degrees that are available in this program:

  • Instrumentation and Control Engineering Technology
  • Electrical Engineering Technology
These programs boast an average 98% employment of their graduates, with a typical starting salary after completing a two year Associate of Applied Science Degree, of $40,000 to $60,000.

This program is taking applications and scholarships are available. The scholarship deadline has been extended to March 15, 2010 in order to give high school students the opportunity to apply for these funds. This is an excellent scholarship which typically covers the full two-year program’s tuition.

Students may access the scholarship application online at: http://www.isu.edu/scholar/forms/ESTECann.pdf

For more information on this program, or to apply for admission, students may contact the I.S.U. College of Applied Technology Student Services Office at 282-2622.
