Michael B. Whitfield Scholarship

The Teton Regional Land Trust has created a scholarship in honor of Michael B. Whitfield who helped found the organization in 1990 and served as its Executive Director for 18 years. Michael's passion for and commitment to land conservation initially in Teton Valley, then throughout the Upper Snake River Watershed, has been instrumental in the preservation of key landscapes in the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem.

Candidates must be graduating seniors who live in the Teton Regional Land Trust service area. These counties include Bonneville, Clark, Fremont, Jefferson, Madison, Teton and parts of Bingham, Butte, Caribou, and Lemhi in Idaho and Teton County, Wyoming west of the Tetons. Candidates must show an intetnion to pursue a major course of study in college or vocational school in the environmental sciences, biology, ecology, environmental planning of policy, agriculture, or a related field. Candidates must have a grade point average of at least 3.

In an essay of up to two pages, candidates should explain their philosophy regarding environmental issues. The essay should contain examples of experience with and involvement in local, regional, or national environmental concerns. Candidates should include a description of how they see themselves affecting environmental matters in the future.

On a seperate page candidates should include the following information. Name, address, phone number, Parents or guardians, their current high school, and expected graduation date. They should also include Colleges/Universities or Technical Schools applied ot and intended course of study, their transcript. They should also have three references of non-family members, and any information the candidate would like to include and a signiture.

All applications must be recieved by April 1. Recipient will be named by May 1.
